How much bandwidth etc. would I need to host my business' website?
A business hosting question:
I’m developing a website which could potentially get say 10 million hits a month. There will be short clips on the site (approx 30 each of about 30seconds in length) How much bandwidth would this require? And how much would that cost do you reckon per year? Thanks

Your downstream bandwidth will not matter too much. I have many customers hosting on 20Mb broadband, and only 1 or 2 Mb upstream. This is more important as your upstream becomes he client’s downstream limit. For videos we have had to post them to a major ISP’s web storage and link them from the site. For the number of hits you forecast you really need an upstream of at least 8 Mb. On a heavy traffic day, that will be pushing it.
If you use something like Godaddy to host your site you can get unlimited bandwidth for only $15/m. If your using your own stuff it could really get up there in cost. Say each video was only 1MB in size and everybody watched at least one at 10 million hits that’s about 10,000GB right there! Use something like Godaddy for $15/m its worth it.
